All other things being equal, is there any advantage over 4/20/4, over 4/16/4? This is assuming argon filled and one pane low e glass.

Getting quotes at the moment uPVC windows, some offering 4/20/4 and others 4/16/4, both quoting 1.6 or under 'u' value.

20mm is pretty standard now, don't think there is a great deal of difference between them, you want to go more for the quality of window and hardware really

Just checked 16 and 20 both 90% filled with argon both u value 1.5 using pilkington k glass

Thanks for that quick reply, I was going round in circles trying to find a difference, and ending up in the same position.

Buying replacement double glazing is worse than buying a new car. At least if you don't like the car it can be sold again!

Now trying to decide between two quotes, one a couple of hundred either side of £7500, one by a bigger company. This started at £15000, then £11000, now down to £9900, but told it has to be lower than £8000. The first is 4/20/4, the second 4/16/4. First company is using Profile22 and the second their own extrusions (I think) with a steel reinforcing U shape in it.

Profile 22 is a pretty good profile, but you could well save yourself some money by getting quotes off smaller companies, who don't employ salesmen.
