Thought now a good time to put in cables for an alarm should i decide to get one.
Would running 4 core telephone cable (two colour pairs) to where motion sensors will be, be the way to go. One run per sensor back to the cupboard i would put the control box?

Thank you, are there any basic wiring diagrams you can point me to, or is it as i say 1 run per sensor?

DONT USE PHONE CABLE!!!
use proper alarm cable!!!

basic set up for cabling;

1 x front door contact
1 x rear door contact
1 x PIR lower hall
1 x PIR dining room
1 x PIR lounge
1 x PIR kitchen
1 x PIR upper hallway
1 x PA master bedroom
1 x PA front door

keypad to upper floor
keypad to lower floor

external siren to front of property
Decoy unit to rear (od the other way round if you want)
internal speaker to first floor high level, in a corner

dont fit you alarm box in the loft either!

control box, big white thing with all you cables in it, somewere out of the way but close to mains power

and take a phone cable from your master socket tot eh panel, if you want to fit it with a Speech Dialler.

that should do it!!

basically, the rule of thumb is 6 core to ALL positions, and one cable to one device, (its easier to fault find!!)

Thanks, whats the idea of the PA for then?

It's a panic button you can hit to set the alarm off manually at any time, even when the normal alarm functions (motion detectors etc.) are turned off.

oh that did make me chuckle!!!

PA, now i never thought that someone would think it was a sound system!!!

can you imagine it,

alarm goes off and a speaker shouts `help i am being burgled` now that would be funny!!!

but then again we fit fire crier to our fire systems!!!

no mate, the PA is for activating the intruder alarm 24 7 even if the system is set or unset.
otherwise known to us as an HUD, (hold up device) usually silent, on monitored system, but audible on most other systems)

hope this all helps you decide what you want to do>

but please don't use telephone cable, its not designed for intruder alarms!

hi, thanks for the advice, i bought some alarm cable.
Any recommended alarms would be good for when i,m at that stage.

Texecom Veritas are great little panels,
if I was you I would go for a veritas R8 with a menvier SD1+ speech dialler.
