I am trying to fit a tank thermostat to my hot water tank. it is an immersion tank and seems to heat up extremely hot so I trying to control the temperature with the tank stat. It is a siemens stat and the immersion is controlled by a mechanical timer switch (make unknown sorry!) is this a simple fix? |

Do you mean to control the immersion heater or
The heating by a boiler? |

The immersion heater already has a thermostat inside it. Maybe you should test and change that if it is faulty. |

or adjust it down.
turn the power off, and remove the top of the heater. (usually a nut)
Inside should be a dial, maybe set at 65. You could turn it down to 60.
or as said it could be faulty.
To test, after the heater has been on for a while and water very hot, listen to the tank with the heater on.
Does it sound like a kettle, either constantly or intermittantly. If it does it's faulty. |

Replace / set the immersion heater thermostat.
You should be able to change the setting and heat the thermostat switch
on and off. |
