I need to fit a new cable and box for the telephone and broadband up stairs ,the best way for me is to go up the outside of the external wall from master socket, from the looks of it someone has joined another extension by twisting the wires together in the master socket box, proper mess too ,so that might explain why my speed is so awful unless that's down to sky, what's the best cable to buy for external use ,also any other advice welcome...cheers

This is five pair but it was the first hit on Google "BT external CW"

If the master socket is an NTE 5 then change the front plate for a filtered front plate such as http://www.solwise.co.uk/adsl_splitters-faceplates.htm

Then wire ADSL and phone on separate pairs in the external cable to separate sockets in the bedroom.

By separating ADSL and phone wiring at the NTE you will significantly improve you broad band speeds. It may take a few days for the system to realise it can operate faster over the improved wiring.

There are other suppliers of filtered faceplates.

Bernard's advice is spot-on.

There are plenty of suppliers of external-grade phone cable in sensible lengths on eBay too.
