I use multi surface cleaner or star drops.
I dont know the manufacturers name of the flooring as it was layed when i moved in.
Ive tried some laminate floor cleaners from the DIY stores but just get the same dull cloudy finish.

don't, they are not specially made for laminate flooring. I'm sure you followed the instructions of the DIY stores products, but have you tried 'buffing' the floor after the product has dried?
If that doesn't help try a special cleaner/polisher for laminted flooring from one of the well-known (expensive) brands like Quick-step, Berry etc.
Where are you based, we have a 'multi-brand' laminate floor cleaner in stock.
