Hotpoint wfs541 burning smell brushes?

hope someone can help got home from work and the mrs had left the washing machine on and i was welcomed with a kind of electrical burning smell sniffed it out to the washing machine ive been advised to change the brushes ive took them out and they look fine although do stink of the same smell how much can these wear theres about 20mm left of the brush when removed and the spindle they run on is smooth when rotating should these be replaced or should i be looking elsewhere?

Remove the lid and look at the mains suppressor in the top right

thanks a lot its melted around the top so looks like problem solved
