We had a new Aqualisa Aquastream shower fitted a month ago. Our old shower, which developed a leak had to be replaced. After the plumbers left, we found that, whenever we switched the light on in the bathroom, the shower would make an unbelievably loud noise - you could hear it throughout the house. Somehow, the elctrics from the lightswitch link in to both the extractor fan AND the shower. Our old shower, when you switched the light on, would give a stronger water flow. I presume the same OUGHT to be happening again now but there is in fact no change in the water flow whether the light is switched on or not. After about a minute, the noise subsides. I rang the plumber this evening and he has agreed to return to look at the shower tomorrow but I have a horrible feeling he will say it\\\'s not his problem. The only reason we didn\\\'t call them back sooner is that we have been away for most of the past month so this is the earliest opportunity we\\\'ve had to call him back. I am really worried that I am going to be faced with a hefty bill when I suspect something has not been installed correctly. Incidentally, when they switched the old shower or the new, they did not replavce the transformer (they kept the old one in). Would that have anything to do with the problems?

Does anybody have any ideas at all? Thanks... :( :(

Firstly was the work inspected, tested and certificated to part p 2005 building regs??? Think it would be stretching it a bit to call this an accessory change. Bathroom/showerroom now counts as a "special location" and all but the most basic work needs to be certificated by those of us competent to do so. This process would have shown any problems with the existing wiring and probably could have been remedied fairly easily

I think it doesn't need Notification or special treatment , it's Extra Low Voltage.

He should certainly have changed the transformer, they're different now.

The Aquastream has the on - off switch inside, so doing anything external shouldn't switch it on or make it make a noise. I don't know how your previous shower worked, but the As's two speeds are controlled by turning the knob, nothing external.

The fan and shower MUST have their own switches. It sounds like the shower and fan used to be connected in series or something orrible, and the guy connecting the new shower didn't test anything.

The fan switch should be a special one outside the bathroom, looking like this:

...so you had an existing wiring fault....maybe the plumber assumed the wiring was OK

Thanks everybody so far. Surprise, surprise, the plumber didn't turn up when agreed and is coming tomorrow instead! Do you think that the loud noise, which definitely comes from inside the shower unit, is due to a faulty pump though, or could anything to do with its installation be the cause? Maybe that is just too vague a question when you can't actually see or hear the shower in question. I will ask the plumber about fitting a sep. switch for the fan, thanks for that. I had mentioned the fact that switching the light on made the old shower stronger to the plumber before he actually fitted the new one, so he was aware of the electrics (whether faulty or not). I am more concerned that I will either haev to replce the WHOLE shower again (when only a few months old) or maybe will get away with just getting a new pump? If anyone has had a similar problem, I'd be grateful to hear from them. I didn't get building regs as assumed that, as all we were doing is switching one, almost identical shower for another, we would be OK.

I thnk you'll only solve this one by tracing the wires round to see what's really connected where. Can be a long job. Handy with a multimeter?

Did you have any luck with this ? I also have an Aqualisa Aquastream which has just started screaching when it's turned on. Was it the pump ?

Thanks
