Maple Floor - staining?
Reply with quote Thanks

We are in the process of buying a house with an existing solid canadian maple strip floor (40ft x 20ft/ballroom quality, so we are informed). Would it be possible to stain it an oak colour and how should I go about it?

Personal opinion: that would be a shame.
Canadian Maple is much more expensive than Oak, the grade you're talking of is a Prime.
Colouring it (yellow) Oak would devaluate it.
But if you want to go ahead with it: sand the existing finish completely away and apply the new coloured finish.
