detergent in salt container

Hi,
We mistakenly add detergent to the water softener container. We tried to flush it all out with water from a hose, but don't know whether it is safe to use the dishwasher now. Is it likely that the ion exchange technology is totally damage? Any suggestions on what is best to do? Thanks.

borrow an aqua vac and suck out everything from the salt container. after that refill it with water and repeat this a couple of times.
fill it up again with salt and you should be alright. besides most people don't put salt in anyway. it depends how hard the water is in your area.
you must get rid of the detergent though.
