I am looking to replace my single kitchen light with recessed lights in two banks. Is the only way to route the cable by taking the floor up in the room above. The house is relatively new so it has MDF flooring covered by laminate rather than floorboards and carpet. I may just being lazy as I am trying to figure how to fit them with the minimum fuss (and decoration)

it might be cheaper to rip down the plasterboard ceilings and install it this way, rather than do the laminate floors again. Only was to get perfect finish again afterwards is to re board the entire ceiling. Reboard it yourself and then pay a plasterer to skim. It will make a mess in the kitchen though.

Alternatively, if you want the tricky route, mess about with drilling joists at angles thru tiny holes etc.

only other way is to use a small trunking, descrete above kitchen units and break through at each point required. Once you have painted you will forget its there. Last choice in my book tho. But laminate flooring is a good reason to do it that way.
