Closing valve - started leaking?

Hiya

I'm trying to close the valves at each end of the radiator to remove for decorating, but the smaller one (not thermostat, sorry don't know tech term) leaks when closed off??? It's fine when open.

How do I fix this?!

try tightening the gland (ooerr)nut. after youve closed it. thats the tiny hex thing under the thing you turn ,to turn ,the valve shut . phew.

Is that in between the square bit I'm turning & the big hex nut of the joint?

yes. just nip it up, after youve closed it.
