Hi Chaps, just wanted a few thoughts / suggestions from the oil engineers out there.

We having been having problems for a long time with the Firebird Enviromax boilers sooting up photocells.

This has been a problem for us and other engineers in the area and has been aleiviated somewhat with Firebird altering the chamber design and making the tubes larger at the bottom and using less baffles.

So far we have put it down to too much resistance in the chamber which doesn't let the gasses escape quick enough and comes back on the combustion head resulting in the soot on the photocell.

We have been fitting the shorter RDB photocell to try and keep it away from the flame and this has helped in most cases but in very severe cases we have had to straighten out the zig zag baffles at the bottom and cut a bit off them to get them to fit back in and give the gasses less resistance (efficiency difference we have noted has been very negligable)

Just wondered if anyone else has been experiencing this and if so what measures have been taken and if its cured or helped any?

Thanks, Dan
