I have an hotpoint FDW60 dishwasher.
I live in a medium to soft water area.
Should I still use separate salt even though I use an 3 in 1 dishwasher tablet that containe`s its own salt.
what do you recommend.

Try & see, I took about 6months to get mine good. When I used the tablets I still had salt in, I couldnt tell any difference. Its adjusting the salt that seems critical. My cutlery rusts so on Hotpoints advice I take that out after the wash & before the dry. Touch wood all seems well now, although the new machine is not as good as the 15 year old Hotpoint that I have just replaced.

But too much salt will give poor results. It needs to be right for YOUR water.

then you set your regeration unit to dispense the correct amount. usually a good manual will give you some idea depending on the area you live in.

Now I'm interested, what is a regeration unit? how is it adjusted, perhaps I should have read the manual?

My Hotpoint machine, the adjustment is where the salt goes small lever with + / -. This is easily knocked when you fill with salt, so when you get it right, make a mental note of the position. Talking from experience.
