hi there ......i have a new cooker being delivered and fitted on friday but they seemingly dont disconnect the old cooker..is this a difficult task ? cheers .

It is easy enough but there are safety implications. You normally disconnect at the cooker end of the cable as the new cooker will not come with it's own cable. This means that after you disconnect there is a risk of someone getting a shock from the bare wires. If you can identify the circuit breaker or fuse that serves the cooker in your consumer unit you should turn it off/remove it. If not, you can turn off the cooker at the cooker wall switch and put tape over the switch to remind people not to turn it on. You then take off a small cover on the back of the cooker and disconnect the wires, which will be held by nuts or screws. For extra safety you could tape up the bare ends until they come to fit the new cooker.
