rendering a small wall in garden

Hi guys, I am building a new pond, this will be above the ground about 6 concrete blocks high by 2.4m x 2.4m.
I am wanting to render the outside of the blocks and get a nice smooth finish.
Can any one advise me of the mixture i need and any tips.
