Hello. I have been having problems with the radiators. Have tried bleeding them starting with those closest to boiler. All apart from one in the front room is working fine. It doesnt appear to have any air trapped so bleeding is not the solution and the air pressue seems to be fine. The radiator feels warm in parts and towards the top, but cold at the bottom? Any suggestions in simple straightforward English would be great! :)

straightforward English

  • It's full of sludgey stuff that will ruin your carpet
Take it off & outside, remembering the above
Stick a hose in it, turn hose on
Bash it with a mallet or kick it
Put it back on, still remembering the above

An alternative possibility is that the other rads are gobbling up all the hot water and there is none left for that one. to test this, turn the others off one at a time, starting with the ones that feel hottest and are therefore probably taking most of the water flow.

If this is the trouble, you can balance the syt using lockshield valves (advice available here if that turns out to be the prob).

As regards taking the rad off, have you got a good supply of spanners and wrenches, and do you know where the drain-off point(s) are?

BTW were you bleeding them because they were filling up with gas, and what colour was the water that squirted out onto your clean rag?
