Any of you had the experience of using 16mm cable for a cooker and a shower? rewiring a house for a friend and they have 16mm cable (dont know where they got it from!) they dont want to spend more than what is necessary!

It is very painfull to work with, and often won't fit into the terminals of showers e.t.c.

They'd be better off selling it on ebay and buying the right size for the job (unless they have a long run in insulation and a powerhungry shower and cooker.

At least 16mm cable has a BIG advantage - in the event of an earth fault, and if the house is on a TN-C-S earthing system, the fuse or MCB breaker will operate extremely quickly indeed, well below the 0.4 seconds required by BS7671.

Cant see that a circuit wired in 16mm will have a hugely differing earth fault loop impedance from that of 10mm, and thus disconnection time being very similar ;)

Higher current carrying capacity, yes - thus suiting it self to being buried in thermal insualtion.
