My dishwasher has worked fine for 8 years. Now no water enters the machine. I have checked hose for connection and kinks- its fine. When I pour water in it will wash on that cycle and drains ok at the end. No water enters at the rinse cycle either. what do you think the problem could be?

You've got a blockage somewhere and it's activated the anti flood device on the inlet valve. Turn off the water, disconnect the inlet hose at the machine end. Refit the hose, turn the water on and try the dishwasher. It should now fill.
However, it will lock out again due to the blockage. Most times it involves a new Integrated Water Management System to be replaced along with the inlet valve and possibly the pressure system. Pretty expensive repair.

Unplug your appliance before working on it.
