Electrolux - door wont close :(

I have an old Electrolux washing machine and the latch is loose with no tension on the door and therefore wont lock. I have tried to fix this by placing the spring and latch in the door correctly. The tension is retained again but the latch \\\'sits\\\' crookedly in the door and then becomes loose again. Do i need a new spring? Thank you
