On an indesit WI 121 the drum is rubbing on the seal, is this a problem with the drum or can the seal expand or something?

I have removed the seal and cleaned all limescale gunk from behind but this has made no difference. :(

It would appear that this unit does not have a shaft and bearing and the only way to cure movement is to replace the drum.

Spares shop also said that these and other machines from hotpoint etc are now made in ITaly and are complete junk.

It must have a shaft and bearings. The bearings are possibly on an external spider.
However, open the door or the machine and locate the part of the drum rubbing on the seal, place a piece of wood against this part of the drum and gently press it inwards. Don't press too hard or too far, you only want to true up the drum.

Unplug your appliance before working on it.
