Hello,

OK this may be a stupid question but thats why I'm here so I can get the correct advice!

I'm trying to flush mount a socket that was originally surface mounted in a lath & plaster wall. Problem is that the laths have broken and are in a poor condition. Now I have a hole in the wall with a cavity behind it and nothing for the plasterboard mount box to grip on to.

Can I fill the cavity with expanding foam filler and once its gone off cut a hole to mount a metal box in the foam filler with barbed rawlplugs? Or does this contravene all electrical regulations/fire hazards etc?

If someone knows a better way I would apprectate the help.

Thanks

if you'r redecorating anyway then i'd cut a big hole (at least about 3 times the height of a socket and reaching to the wooden uprights), replace with plasterboard and skim to match surrounding surface. that should then give you a good base to mount your dryline box.
