We have a house with an old Upvc conservatory put up by the previous owners. We intend to replace it and the wife wants to use wood, not dwarf brick walls and plastic.


The idea is to put in a new strip foundation and concrete block footings to about 6" above ground level then sit the new 4 m x 4 m wooden building on this. One side wall fully clad, 1 m high cladding with windows and the door other two sides, lean to roof.


We thought 100 mm x 50 mm larch framing with plywood - breathable membrane - larch shiplap cladding externally.
Internally putting 100 mm cellotex between the framing, then 25 mm x 50 mm cross battens onto which 50 mm cellotex plasterboard.


Lean to roof using 150 mm x 50 mm treated softwood rafters to wallplate. Battens - membrane - cedar shingles externally.
Internally, 150 mm cellotex between rafters, cross battens then 20 mm T&G cladding for the ceiling.
Well insulated concrete floor, double glazed solid oak window frames and door. We intend to use the new conservatory as a second sitting room -all year round.
