Hi,
i have a problem with the gas boiler in my home(Apollo 40s Gas Boiler)

the pilot light will not stay on.and the boiler wont heat teh house
I have re-lit as per the instructions, holding in the gas valve button and then pressing the igniter button.
the pilot light ignites and stays lit, until i take my finger off the gas valve button.
on each retry, i hold the gas valve button for over 30 seconds and press the ignitor button, again it lights, but each time when i take my finger off it the pilot light goes out

any help here would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Brendan

Lack of service (ie blocked pilot?)

thermocouples on these or prone to problems if not genuine where the overheat stat leads join. the over heats best changed while ur at it. worst case is it is ya gas valve. I recomend you call out a pro.

Hi Brendan. This problem is very common with this model boiler. Soggy_weetabix's suggestions are spot on, the first one, thermocouple, will be the fault. They burn out in about 1-2 years normally. Trouble is, it will need the attention of a CORGI engineer [case off etc]. £50-60 call out [this is Dorset] & £10-£20 [I know] for a thermocouple should warm you up again. At the same time a good gasman could advise on service[ heat exchanger fins block up ]. Not a bad boiler, if looked after. Good luck getting hold of a CORGI engineer.
