Changing a ceiling spotlight back to a pendant light fitting

How do i do this? I presume it must be relatively simple? but i have never actually done it before so can anyone give me a simple guide for doing this?
It is one of the standard three light spotlights that are on a plate- i personally can't stand them and would much prefer a normal pendant light
