A manual mixer valve requires the user to adjust the valve to maintain a constant temperature if the hot or cold water supply pressure varies during use.
A thermostatic valve will automatically vary the proportion of hot and cold to maintain the selected temperature (provided it is installed as per the manufactures instructions!)
