creaking bedroom floorboards

New carpet in bedroom but the floorboards underneath are creaking badly and making a noise like a car horn at parts, how do we sort this? icon_razz.gif

Take the carpet up and put 60mmscrews into the joists nearest to where the floor board are creaking icon_smile.gif

...after having a look to see what pipes and cables are hiding underneath ready for you to drill into them.

And countersink the screw heads or they will make holes in the underlay first, then the carpet.

What size screws should be used for securing floorboards to joist?

Are they floorboards or chipboard? Chipboard is notorious for squeeking.
