Creaky floorboard / joist?
Reply with quote Thanks

I have a creaky floorboard which has been nailed and screwed down repeatedly but with no joy. The last builder said that he thought it was a problem with the joist, or could be because pipes run under the floorboards. Is there anything that can be done?

If there are hot water pipes underneath then the board could be expanding, so when you tread on it it rubs with the neighbouring boards causing the squeak.

Just take it up and shave a bit off the sides.

Apparently, putting talk in the gaps might help too.

dead easy this , lift board at sections where plumber has been , get a plain an shave off a sliver on each edge , these remedies mentioned only work as a stop gap , get it sorted , no trouble , a few hours on a sunday ...

Personally I find that 90% of squeeking from a floor is from a nail, the boards rub up and down the nails causing the squeek, If your going to take the boards up try removing the nails first leaving the screws in.
