Hi All

Just thinking about some footings I am digging out for my garage.

The main garage opening is 3m wide and I was wondering if there was actually any need to pour concrete footings underneath this three metre span (apart from enough to cover the piers at each end of the opening). As there would be no weight distributed over about 2m its seems like it might be a good idea to leave it untouched, saving time & money & effort.

Is there any sound structural reason perhaps why it would be better for the footings to be fully completed/joined?

Thanks.

C.

What type of footing is it? strip?
Also what type of garage floor are you putting in? beam and block? ground bearing slab?

sorry, yes - strip footings, and the base is already down - the garage will go over an existing hardstandingof 5 inch or so concrete slab

Yep shouldnt be any problem as long as you are cutting into stable soil and have no intension to change the nature of the garage at a later date.

You may find it more time consuming to dig the piers each side
