WINDOWS XP - APPLICATION ERROR MESSAGES

I am currently having a problem with my pc in that when I startup Windows XP Home Edition – Service Pack 2 I seem to get loads of ‘memory related’ Application Error messages relating to various Application ‘exe’ files such as:-


(The ‘exe’ file concerned) - Application Error

The instruction at “0x00000000” referenced memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be “read”.

Click on OK to terminate the program

The particular ones that keep appearing (with different memory addresses) are:-

logonui.exe
nerocheck.exe
vttimer.exe
imapi.exe
userinit.exe
ipconfig.exe
wscntfy.exe
wmiprvse.exe
wuauclt.exe

When I click ‘OK’ the box closes and there does not seem to be any problems although as soon as I try to start another program I will get the same thing specifically relating to that particular program.

Any help as to the possible cause of this happening and some ideas on how to stop these would be very much appreciated.

With that particular set of applications trapping, I'd guess that you either have a memory module error or your CPU is fried. Both pretty unusual things, but not unknown, have you made any hardware changes recently?

Oh or possibly the hard drive. You might want to have a look at the event log, click start, click run, type eventvwr press OK, report back on what you have in here.

Can you do the same from the system event log?

Sorry, I haven't been able to get back on line until now and this is using a relatives pc.

I spoke too soon as the machine crashed on me shortly after and now it will not reboot.

It offers me the option to go into 'safe mode' but when I choose it the list of drivers appears and then the pc restarts.

I have tried all the available options without success!

Any ideas would be appreciated - apart from 'the skip'

Looks like you have a hardware fault. On an alternative computer, (obviously) look at the windows XP recovery console options. To do this go to www.microsoft.com and type windows XP recovery console into the search box. This will give you loads of info to attempt to identify the problem and get you up and running again.
