ceiling fan lights flicker with dimmer

i moved a ceiling fan from one room to another it worked great here but when i hooked it up in the dining room to a dimmer it flickers when i turn it up should i get rid of the dimmer. i hooked up the ground the hot and the neutral right........ please help i dont want to turn the power on until i know [/u][/i][/b]

i would loose the dimmer - it may not be rated for motor loads.
