The installation diagram for this unit gives slot 1 and 2 as live. I presume this just means evenly split the live wire into both?

I don't know this particular hob but if terminals 1 & 2 are both live (phase) there will be a proper u shaped connector, either already in place, or in a little pocket beside the terminals
