I have a downstairs bathroom and the water backs up when the shower is on. The waste pipe has to travel about 2.5m to reach the drain, but being a downstairs bathroom there is minimal fall. Can any one suggest a solution without having to dig down into the foundations to create a fall and somehow break into the exterial drain below ground level. Thanks

Have you removed the waste grill and inner piece of the trap and checked its clear?

Have you tryed plunging it in case its partially blocked?

If it's a normal shower trap you will have toop access - remove grill and then a tube normally unbayonets to reveal the end of the waste pipe for rodding (fine spring works). Otherwise, sulphuric acid will dissolve hair.
Very often waste pipes like than will have sagged a bit and become horizontal in the middle.
