I have a Potterton Puma 80 boiler. It's not been on for about 3 months as was having work done to flat. I switched it on recently and it was working fine - heating and hot water - except external thermostat was broken. This didn't seem to affect the heating or hot water. Then all of a sudden it stopped working - no hot water or heating. I noticed that the pilot is not on. I have tried to re-ignite but it doesn't come on. I can see the sparks the igniter makes. Can anyone help?

Starting at the basics, have you gas to the appliance?

If so, your pilot may be blocked or the electrode adjustment may need changing.

The problem requires a CORGI engineer as case seals are broken in respect of the ignition failure if you have gas to the appliance.

Thanks David.

I think there is gas going to the boiler as cooker hob is working.

Guess this is not a diy job then?

check the external thermostat was broken, has not popped a fuse somewhere

WHat's the water pressure?

if it's low, it might need repressurising (and then you have to find the leak)

if it's 1 bar +, then it could be the low pressure sensor. If conmpetent to do so, you could (as a quick test) try shorting out the contacts

I presume yours is the perm. pilot version
