central heating pump

I have just replaced my central heating pump. Unfortunately, although i'm sure i have the pump fitted in the right direction, i am getting a lot of hot water flowing into the header tank. I have got the pump on the lowest setting (1)and have attempted to balance the rads but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks

Was it doing this before ? and are the pump valves open ?

I fitted new isolator valves above and below the new pump and they are open.

I wasn't aware that there was a problem with a backflow into the header tank before i changed the pump.

I changed the pump because it wasn't making a terrible noise and on inspection was full of sludge.

Another problem i have had is the boiler firing up outside the programmed times.

Try turning the pump round.

Potterton profile 80e. 12 years old, noisy.

Pump arrow is pointing in the same direction as the old one was

If water is still pumping into the tank, it sounds like you have a blockage in the pipes. This is most often where the feed pipe from the tank meets the circulating pipes, or very near it, and up the feed pipe.
