take the small rear panel off

put the belt around the motor and as far around the pulley as possible.

turn the pulley around slowly and ease the belt on

make sure once the belt is on its central on the pulley

Thanks Deviant.

Maybe it is just me and that I am completely inept. Tried what you suggested but still can't get it on. Always lef with about 6 inches which won't go on. As I turn the pulley it does not make any progress.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the right length belt, according to the merloni disc it should be a 1046H8 belt.

If its right and you're still struggling, sometimes soaking the belt in boiling water to loosen the elastic part then putting it it staright on can help, just be carefull!
