Hi,
I have a problem with my washing machine. It is a year old and over the past few months the soap tray has been filling up with water during a wash cycle. The quantity is increasing over time so soon it will start leaking from this area. Does anybody know if this is this a common problem that can be identified easily? Or are there any things to look for to rectify it?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Quite likely it is clogged with old soap. Pull out the drawer and give it a scrub with hot water. The drawers are generally removable but you may need to check your instruction booklet if there is a catch. Look in the slot where the drawer fits and clean in there too.

If you see any black mildew clean it with a bleachy kitchen cleaner and rinse well.

If that was the trouble, it is often caused by doing lots of low-temperature washes and not using a hot fill from time to time. You can also try throwing the cup of soap powder in through the door of the machine instead of using the drawer dispenser.

Try doing a *hot* wash from time to time with no soap added. You may find there is a general buildup of soap in your machine and this will dissolve it. Check the correct amount of powder to use in your area (hard or soft water?) and do not exceed it.
