Iím considering tiling behind a wood-burning stove, is this viable? Iím concerned that adhesives will not be able to cope with the expansion/contraction from the heat of the stove. If not tiles, which 'paint' to use on a rendered surface? Any advice, examples or warnings would be helpful.

G'day Paddypower. I've layed bricks behind probably 20 wood stoves but never been asked to put tiles there. When there not in some sort of alcove I've allways put down a brick on edge base with some sort of brick feature behind. You can do quite a bit with a brick feature. Wish I had some pics for ya icon_redface.gif ...Kev...

Kev,
thanks for your ideas, unfortunately I can not use bricks as the stove is in upstairs room, the stove flue is horizontal straight into an old brick chimney breast (but lined), theres is nothing underneath to support another skin. The best I can do is render then 'decorate' the render, anything else would be major. BUT you have led me to think about brick slips if I could be sure of fixing them.

regards
