Hi We have recently moved into a new house, and found the extractor fan in the bathrooom did not, work, bought a new one, fitted...and it blows, but does not suck? what did I do wrong? checked the wring of the extractor fan against one which does work properly, and they are the same.. it is connected to an insulator switch, and that also appears to be wired the same as the one controlling the one that works properly..

Help?????

do you have access to any electrical test equipment?
Are you sure the terminals on the new fan are in the same order as on the old fan?
Does the fan have a timer overrun?
Can you post us a photo of the connections on the new fan?
How many, what tyype and colour wires do you have at the fan?
Are you sure it is running backwards, or could a draught be causing the problem?

sorry do not have access to any testing equipment to day...
yes, the cables are in the same order, connecting to the cables on the device...

device black/ connected to mains yellow withr ed sleeve
device blue /connect to mains blue with black sleeve
decice brown/ connected to mains red

yes it does have a timer facility..

no its not in backwards....

it works when you turn the light on, and then runs on for a period after the light is turned off, its an ajustable time period...

can not do photos today...hope this helps...... someone has replaced the lightfiting which this is switched from? could this be the problem area?

One make of fan (IIRC its Xpelair, although it could be Vent-Axia) have a micro switch inside which can toggle it between input and extract. Are you sure there's nothing like this?

IIRC with vent axia you can wire L supply to red for forward and to yellow for reverse or vice versa.

Just thought I'd come in 13 years later as I've just had the same issue and as it turned out,it was an obstructed draught excluder flap on the back of the fan. It seems it was being obstructed by the ducting (flexi) and causing the air to bounce back off the draught excluder and back into the room....
