The only Tap in my Bungalow connected directly to the mains is the kitchen sink. is that normal?

Yes. In some parts of the country people like to put bathroom taps on the mains, and in other parts they prefer to feed them from a cold water cistern in the loft. Either is OK.

I think that potable water has to come directly from the mains

just don't drink water from the bath ...
