How does Part P affect DIY electrics?

Hi,
I'm looking at relocating the sockets of the mains ring in the kitchen of a small apartment.
I don't intend going going as far back as the CU. How does the Part P legislation affect this job? Does it apply in Scotland too? Could I do the work and get it inspected?
Cheers,
Stu

It doesn't.

No.

But there is specific Scottish legislation.

Dunno.

You should make the effort to find out for yourself what the legislation says.

Do not rely on other people's interpretation of it, particularly if they have vested interests, such as being electricians, or running a registration scheme, or being a local authority after a quiet life.

I say this not because I have any evidence that such people or organisations are misleading the public, but because I have seen exactly this happen with English electricians and organisations with respect to Part P.

Thanks for the reply,

I did do a bit more searching after I posted the question and found a link to the SBSA. search ("building regulations scotland")

Unfortunately for me, doing this in most rooms is "non-notifiable" but for kitchens the rules are more strict. So it may well need prior permission from Building Standards and inspecting & testing afterwards. Which all costs money. icon_cry.gif

I also found it interesting that Flats, 2 storey houses and 3+ storey houses have different criteria! I love red tape! Keeps the council tax up!

If only everything could be simple for a change.......

Off to see building standards this week to see what they think...

Thanks,

Stu

There is a way to keep it simple.

Can you tell what it is yet?
