Preparing wood floor

I have removed ceramic floor tiles from a 22mm wood sheet floor. I now need to remove the residue adhesive before I lay vinyl floor tiles.
Please can anybody advise me of the easiest way to remove the old tile adhesive to leave a smooth level floor ready to receive 5mm waterproof ply and then the vinyl tiles.
