Help! Removing Parquet & Tar

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me. I am removing a parquet floor to expose the Victorian tiled floor underneath. I'm having difficulty removing the tar, does anyone know of anything that could remove the tar that won't damage the tiles beneath other than elbow grease!! Thanks
