I've never tried, as the next cheapest option for the customer is to replace the entire tap.
What make is the tap? If you don't know, then count the number of splines, and measure the overall length from the base of the valve body to the tip of the spindle - I might be able to identity a source.

The valves arte from a 5 yr old development Limehouse link E london where hard water is causing havoc with all the appliances.
The basin taps look as though they were a job lot from china never seen the style b4.
The customer wants to replace the suite in ther near future which maybe even nearer now.
