I am considering painting some contiboard with clear polyurathane varnish, to try and preserve the finish. Has anyone tried this, and was it successfull?

Do you mean contiboard thats covered in melamine already?

I mean white contiboard, the surface of which I find deteriorates quite quickly.

Then no...you really shouldnt paint it..melamine wont take varnish and it will yeollow very quickly.

Have you considered using a melamine primer and then painting it white?
