Dimmer Switch Wiring - Should be simple!
Reply with quote Thanks

At the moment I have a simple bathroom light with a pull cord.
Insie, it has three wires; Red, Blank and Earth (which is connected to the earth point on the plastic surround).

I have in my hands a dimmer switch from Eterna (model DIM250).

It has the following connections available (this is what is embossed above the connection points in the plastic):

'IN' 'LOAD'
============================
N -> N ->
L -> ~ ->

The ~ is actually a wavy line with an arrow through it.

What wires do I connect to what ?

I have tried the obvious (Black and Red to N & L on the 'IN' side, then Black and Red to N and wavy-line on the 'LOAD' side) but it doesn't work.
I don't want to start hacking wires up without seeking advice !

The installation instructions (which can be seen at www.eterna-lighting.co.uk, search for DIM250 and you'll get the pdf) doesn't really clear it up for me either.

Thanks

Seems obvious on the instructions. Red goes to the terminal marked LIVE (IN; L) The black goes on the LOAD ~ terminal.

The instructions say to ignore the neutral terminals.
Dont forget the earth!

Good luck. Tell me if it works

Excellent - thanks.

I'll try that.

Maybe I wasn't reading the instructions with my brain engaged (!)
I knew it should be simple.

I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks!
