filling recessed lighting holes

Hello. I am removing recessed lighting from one of my ceilings in favour of track lighting.

Ceiling is plasterboard. Can anyone please tell me how you go about filling the holes, from the ceiling side. I cant access the ceiling from the floor above

screw a piece of batten across the hole above the ceiling with some drywall screws,cut a circle of plasterboard,screw in and make good with some filler
