cast iron soil pipe removal

I want to remove cast iron soil pipe at floor level in the bathroom, is it poss to grind it off at appropriate lenght and then use normal plastic fitting to connect up to bathroom fittings? Is there anything that I need to take into consideration...would appreciate any advise

Just done this on a conversion to flats it does work however watch when you grind as the sparks tend to get stuck on painted render and PVCu windows the nicely rust about a day later looking pretty awfull as we found out to the plumbers cost

Thanks for the quick reply.......Ive been warned off doing this because Ive been told that the soil pipe is likely to crack not likely is it??

Not had one crack when ground - yet. Visit your local plumber's merchant to look at connector options.
