Hi,

I tried to ask some questions as a survey to make it easier for people to respond but it caused a problem with moderators. So like everyone else I'll just stick to plain old thread format!

I am wondering what kind of fixings do I need to fit a toilet and sink in a bathroom? Simply just plugs and screws or are there specific fixings for certain types of base matrial?

Also, can you buy kits for doing these jobs or is it easier/cheaper to buy everything as separates?

Cheers,

Craig

Are they wall-hung or floor mounted?

With the former, you are obviously supporting a fair bit of weight with strong leverage, especially when in use. We mounted our basin to the wall and WC to a substantial studwork frame using lengths of steel threaded rod and big nuts, probably overkill but I didn't want any movement. For the basin I cemented the rod into the wall using a 2 part resin. I bought all this from a specialist fixings supplier who was most helpful.

With the latter a lighter fixing will do although stainless or brass screws are obviously better. Some sanitaryware comes with fixings included.

I used nylon washers everywhere between fixing and porcelain.

Depends on wall etc. There are special fixings, available widely, eg wickes, screwfix, like these
