Leaky WHB waste outlet - new!

Hi

I am fitting a new WHB and am having trouble sealing the waste outlet - everything is new and the outlet has a popup waste.

I have used the foam ring between the chrome plug hole and basin (top) and a shaped rubber washer between the popup body and the basin (bottom).

When the plug is in, the joint is water tight indicating the foam ring is doing its job, however, when emptying the basin, water pours out between the rubber ring and the basin.

I am loathe to use a sealant due to risk of failure in the future but should I be using a silicone sealant in this location?

No, it seems to be escaping out of the slots which take the flow from the internal overflow.

I have reduced it to a trickle by tightening the body quite tight with a stilson but the added complication is that the outlet for the popup waste needs to be pointing straight back and so any tightening has to be done by undoing the body until the chrome plug hole can be twisted and the then doing the body back up again.

Maybe I'll try one more time before resoting to mastic.

Personally, I'd get rid of the foam washer and just use mastic or if you're worried about not being able to open again easily could use plumbers mate(know some people don't like it though). But I'm no expert.

It's not the foam washer causing a problem because I only get the leak when emptying the basin.

I see....in that case could just use some plumbers mate underneath then...or mastic.
