Have an artex kitchen ceiling painted in matt white paint - had a flood from the radiator in the above bedroom which has left a large brown water stain and the artex is peeling in several small areas. Advice would be welcomed as to if i need to treat the brown patch and if so how, and what paint i need to use to cover the brown stain etc... total amateur here so advice greatly welcomed.

Hope to get a response soon. Many thanks

hi

right couple of probs here first the brown stain will need to be painted in a stain sealer, a product by Zinser either shellaq based or 123 are popular and will work. once dry over paint as normal. You will not be able to paint over it with any waterbased paint wthout sealing it first as the stain will always come back. The peeling artex will probably need to be removed and re-touched but without seeing it, it is hard to give any advice. f you can just get rid of any loose and touch it back up with some ready mixed artex then go for it. If great lumps are coming off then you will need an artexers help as it will be quite a difficult task to put right. Good luck

thank you for your response, will take a trip down to the local diy store for a sealer and will have a go. Much appreciated.
